Backend engineering leader · FinTech · Cairo

Hi, I'm
Mohammed.

I build payment systems that stay reliable when traffic spikes, integrations fail and the business is watching — and I write about the human side of engineering.

Currently leading software engineering at EBE. Co-founder at Hamber-hub.

Work with me

Three ways I can help.

I’ve spent a decade on the parts of engineering that don’t fit in a tutorial: payments that can’t go down, teams that have to ship anyway, and careers built on purpose.

About

Engineering gets interesting when the problem stops being just code.

I’m Mohammed Refat, a backend engineering leader working in FinTech. Most of my days are spent on systems where a millisecond is a business decision: high-concurrency payment microservices in Go, gateway integrations, and the unglamorous security work that keeps cardholder data where it belongs.

I started out as a network administrator, moved through SQL and enterprise billing platforms, and eventually found the work I love — building payment infrastructure that has to hold up when traffic spikes and three integrations fail at once.

Along the way I learned that the hard part is rarely the code. It’s the team around it: how decisions get made, how performance gets measured, how people grow without burning out. That’s what I write about, and what I coach on.

Outside of work I co-founded Hamber-hub, and I still carry lessons from co-founding IEEE Minia and TEDxMinia — the first places I learned that a good idea needs a team more than it needs a genius.

“The job is to make sure the team isn’t winning the numbers while losing the product.”
